Kaitlin Wood of Danville Spends Fall Semester In Zambia

2012 Oct 3

Kaitlin Wood of Danville (40422) departed Sept. 20 to spend a three-month semester studying at Harding University's campus in Zambia (HIZ).

HIZ offers students the opportunity to live and work in a developing nation. Students stay in a compound that houses the George S. Benson Teachers College, an elementary and high school, a medical clinic, an orphanage, and a haven for infants and toddlers who have lost their mothers to HIV/AIDS.

The classes offered relate directly to assisting the world the students have entered. Students receive Tonga lessons from local language instructors, study African history and literature, and listen to several guest lecturers. Students have the opportunity to venture on safaris, witness the splendor of Victoria Falls and Lake Victoria, and travel through East Africa while lingering at mission points along the way.

Students in the program have a full course load available to them taught by visiting Harding professors who also travel with the students and local instructors. Typical of all Harding University International Programs, the classes involve exploration and interaction among culture in which the program is based.

Harding is the largest private university in Arkansas with 6,815 students and attracts more National Merit Scholars than any other private university in the state. Harding also maintains campuses in Australia, Chile, England, France, Greece and Italy. For more information visit www.harding.edu.
