Jesse Hixson of Nolensville performs in Harding University Spring Sing

2016 Mar 28

Jesse Hixson of Nolensville performed in Harding University's 43rd annual Spring Sing March 24-26. Hixson, a public relations at the University, was one of four students selected as a host for the musical variety show drawing more than 10,000 audience members to four performances.

Spring Sing began as a small-scale campus musical showcase in 1974 and has grown to incorporate nearly 1,000 students performing as part of the ensemble or the eight competing social club shows. The shows are judged for originality, costume, choreography and music. Cash awards and plaques are presented to winners, who donate the prize money to charities of their choice.

Competing shows are brought together under the Spring Sing theme "Retro-bution" by host and ensemble performances, including a solo performance by Hixson. As part of "Retro-bution," Hixson performed in group numbers highlighting the pop culture of the 70s and 80s.

"Nostalgia is never new," said Spring Sing director Dr. Steven Frye. "But the pull to step back in time is simply irresistible. Retro style suggests a modern look containing elements of a previous era. Spring Sing started in the 70s and grew up in the 80s. We have come a long way as a university and as a production since then."
